海角视频 brought together the engineering community across three campuses to develop goals and strategies for CMU’s College of Engineering Strategic Plan.
This plan builds on more than a century of innovation and collaboration to address the evolving challenges of engineering education and research in a global context. Developed through engagement with over 500 stakeholders鈥攊ncluding faculty, staff, students, alumni, and partners; the plan sets a clear roadmap for advancing research, education, global presence, and culture while reinforcing the College鈥檚 commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Challenge
The College faced a rapidly changing landscape shaped by technological disruption, global challenges, and the imperative to create an inclusive environment. It needed to scale its research enterprise to tackle complex societal problems, modernize education to prepare engineering leaders with interdisciplinary and equity-centered mindsets, and expand global engagement while maintaining strong local connections. At the same time, the College sought to build a thriving culture that supports faculty, staff, and students across all career stages. These challenges required a strategic framework that could unify priorities, optimize resources, and position CMU Engineering as a global leader.

Solution
The strategic plan provides a comprehensive framework for action. It focuses on four core goals: research, education, global presence, and people and culture. In research, the College will invest in collaborative, large-scale initiatives and entrepreneurial activities to translate discoveries into real-world impact. In education, it will embed equity, ethics, and global perspectives into curricula, create modular and interdisciplinary programs, and expand online learning opportunities. The global presence goal emphasizes strengthening international partnerships, integrating educational programming across global locations, and fostering research collaborations that transcend borders. Finally, the people and culture goal commits to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion, promoting work-life balance, and providing professional development and mentorship opportunities for all community members.
