Advisory, Higher education consulting

º£½ÇÊÓƵ engaged stakeholders across the university to understand pain points and map user journeys for the future building. The first phase of work involved synthesizing interview findings to create 20 user personas, each with detailed user journeys highlighting challenges and technological needs.

º£½ÇÊÓƵ then outlined technology recommendations, potential use cases, and design implications, followed by a second round of meetings to validate these recommendations and address key questions with end users.

Challenge

The University of Miami aimed to design a future-ready building for the Miller School of Medicine that would meet the needs of a diverse user base from students and faculty to clinicians and researchers. The challenge was to create a space that not only supports cutting-edge medical education and research but also enhances user experience through thoughtful integration of technology and design.

Solution

To address this challenge, º£½ÇÊÓƵ partnered with the university to conduct a comprehensive research and technology recommendations study. We began by engaging stakeholders through interviews and workshops to uncover pain points and aspirations for the new building. From these insights, we developed twenty detailed user personas and mapped their journeys, highlighting critical challenges and opportunities for technology integration. Building on this foundation, we outlined technology recommendations and potential use cases, considering their implications for the building’s design. A second round of meetings with end users allowed us to validate these recommendations and refine our approach, ensuring that the proposed solutions aligned with real-world needs.

Value

Our work provides the university with a clear roadmap for creating a smart, efficient, and user-centric environment. The technology recommendations will enhance building aesthetics by reducing noise pollution and improving air quality, while occupancy data will help users locate available desks and optimize space utilization. Secure connectivity will enable seamless access to medical records and digital resources, supporting both clinical and academic workflows. By integrating these solutions into the design, the Miller School of Medicine’s new building will be future-proof, adaptable, and focused on improving the experience and well-being of everyone who uses it.
