Our geotechnics team enables ambitious projects to succeed by delivering creative yet robust solutions in complex ground conditions. From masterplanning through to delivery, we develop foundation and substructure designs that respond to geological risk, reduce embodied carbon and support efficient construction.

We’ve played a key role in many of º£½ÇÊÓƵ’s most iconic projects. At Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, our ground engineering strategy enabled construction on a constrained brownfield site. Challenging ground conditions and buried infrastructure required a bespoke piled foundation solution, supported by real-time ground movement monitoring to protect adjacent assets. This facilitated an accelerated programme and the integration of a complex multi-use venue.

At Everton Stadium, part of The People’s Project, we led the transformation of Liverpool’s historic Bramley-Moore Dock into a stable platform. The water-filled dock and heritage constraints demanded innovative techniques. Our solution – combining marine sand infill and dynamic compaction – improved ground conditions while preserving listed structures, unlocking one of the UK’s most ambitious regeneration schemes.

In central Bristol, we supported the regeneration of brownfield waterside sites through geotechnical design for residential and commercial developments up to 14 storeys. Following detailed ground investigations, we designed piled foundations and secant pile embedded retaining walls to enable basement construction and provide permanent structural support.

In Qiddiya, Saudi Arabia’s new cultural and entertainment capital, our geotechnics and engineering geology teams are advising across the city and districts. On steep, variable terrain, we’re informing masterplan layouts through slope stability assessments, earthworks strategies and foundation feasibility studies.

Sustainability is central to our approach. We promote low-carbon solutions such as retaining and reusing existing foundations, reducing material volumes and avoiding unnecessary piling. Advanced numerical modelling helps us optimise groundworks, minimise excavation and support circular design strategies.

Our expertise also extends to major infrastructure and redevelopment. At Battersea Power Station, we helped deliver deep basements beneath a grade II listed structure by combining foundation reuse, detailed monitoring and carefully sequenced excavation near live rail assets.

Whether stabilising slopes, advising on earthworks or supporting deep urban excavations, our geotechnical engineers bring creativity and rigour to every stage of development – helping shape resilient, efficient projects.

Our award-winning geoenvironmental team combines deep technical expertise with practical, solution-focused thinking to deliver sustainable, efficient and cost-effective advice across a wide range of sites from small residential plots to major, iconic redevelopments. Recognised by Brownfield Briefing for Best Preparatory and Best Verification Projects, we bring proven expertise to every stage of land assessment and remediation.

Our services address a broad spectrum of client needs, including:

  • Environmental due diligence for acquisitions and divestitures
  • Planning support under the National Planning Policy Framework
  • Liability assessment under part 2A of the Environmental Protection Act
  • Construction enablement, including waste classification for reuse and treatment

We adopt a phased investigation approach aligned with British and European Standards, Environment Agency guidance and industry best practice. This supports the development of robust conceptual site models and enables targeted strategies for sampling, in-situ testing, geoenvironmental chemical analysis and monitoring of ground gas, vapour and groundwater.

We have extensive experience in designing, implementing, and verifying remediation strategies as part of enabling works. Our pragmatic approach delivers remediation that is appropriate, efficient and regulator-aligned. Verification reporting is a core strength, offering confidence to regulators, developers, funders and future site owners.

Our portfolio spans public and private sectors, covering sites of varying scale, complexity, and contaminant profiles. We’ve contributed to high-profile developments such as the Millennium Dome (O2 Arena), Olympic Park, Emirates and Etihad Stadia, as well as smaller residential and commercial projects.

We actively shape industry standards, having authored guidance for the Environment Agency, NHBC, CIRIA and AGS, and contributed to initiatives like the National Quality Mark Scheme (NQMS). Led by Alison Nicholson, a Specialist in Land Condition (SiLC) and Suitably Qualified Person (SQP), our team brings credibility and reliability to land contamination submissions. We also promote best practice in waste management through our in-house Qualified Persons certified under the Definition of Waste Code of Practice.

Strong relationships with regulators underpin our success in managing environmental risk and unlocking development potential with confidence.

Together, our technical excellence, regulatory insight, and commitment to best practice deliver trusted, cost-effective solutions that unlock development potential and manage environmental risk with confidence.

Added value is at the heart of the engineering geology team at º£½ÇÊÓƵ. From analysing the key site constraints during the preliminary stages of a project to creating multifaceted innovative construction solutions, we manage ground risk on our client’s behalf throughout the project. We bridge the gap between geotechnical engineering and geoenvironmental consulting, offering holistic advice on ground conditions that influence acquisition, feasibility and design.

Our engineering geologists bring expertise in geology, site investigation, geomorphology, hydrogeology, contaminant transport as well as masterplanning. Early engagement is essential – our team conducts high-level feasibility studies and preliminary site assessments to identify key constraints, risks and opportunities. As projects progress, we produce phase one desk studies and contribute to environmental impact assessments, supporting planning applications and masterplanning milestones.

Once the conceptual site model is developed, we design and manage ground investigations using both intrusive and non-intrusive techniques. This builds confidence in the ground model and deepens understanding of ground-related risks.

We guide clients through each stage with clear outputs that explain complex geological and geotechnical mechanisms, helping identify site-specific challenges and solutions. The ability to be reactive to any challenges whilst also ‘thinking outside the box’ is integral to a successful project.

Our team scopes and tenders ground investigation works, oversees execution and ensures relevant data is collected. We plan laboratory testing schedules and interpret results from geotechnical, chemical and ground gas analyses. From all the data obtained, our engineering geologists devise a pragmatic and holistic approach to all ground related items. This includes foundations, legacy issues including risks from mining voids, remediation (from both obstructions in the ground to chemical remediation) and earthworks.

Sustainability is central to our approach. We promote foundation reuse to reduce embodied carbon and support climate resilience. Our geologists collaborate with our energy team to explore ground source energy systems, helping clients transition to renewable heating and cooling. We provide feasibility studies for open loop, closed loop and surface water systems. We also assist with regulatory processes including abstraction licences and discharge consents.
