Originally launched in 2019, OurCounty was the first countywide sustainability plan for Los Angeles County, setting a bold and inclusive vision for a more equitable, resilient, and sustainable future. The 2025 update reflects on progress made, lessons learned, and emerging challenges, charting a renewed path forward for regional sustainability action.

Challenge

Since 2019, Los Angeles County has made significant progress, with over half of the original actions either achieved or on track. However, new challenges have emerged, including the rise of artificial intelligence, shifts in federal funding landscapes, and escalating climate risks. The County needed a plan that builds on past successes while responding to a rapidly changing context and deepening its commitment to equity and resilience.

Thousands of residents and stakeholders participated through pop-up events, multilingual surveys, workshops, and direct outreach to Tribal governments and rural communities. Input from community-based organizations and a public comment period helped shape the final plan, surfacing emerging issues and aligning County action with regional sustainability efforts.

The updated OurCounty Plan retains the original 12 goals but refines its framework to better reflect current priorities. Targets and strategies were streamlined, while actions were expanded to address emerging issues such as wildfire risk, community resilience, Tribal partnerships, ocean health, green goods movement, and the green economy. These updates deepen the County鈥檚 commitment to equity, sustainability, and inclusive economic growth.
