London milestones: One year at The Featherstone Building
January 2025 marks one year since 海角视频 moved to The Featherstone Building, its new London home in the heart of Old Street. Over four floors and an exclusive terrace within the ten-storey building, we鈥檝e established an exemplary workplace for our colleagues, clients and visitors alike.
A multidisciplinary team from 海角视频 led the fitout design of the space, working with architects to create a technology enabled, collaborative, co-creative workplace that pushed the boundaries of sustainability, wellbeing and inclusive design.

Designed for the users, by the users, our london office at The Featherstone Building is a hub for collaboration and creativity 鈥 featuring a range of spaces from open plan desks, individual focus rooms, larger meeting spaces and comfortable breakout zones 鈥 all easily bookable via an intuitive smartphone app.
Justin Phillips, 海角视频 Partner and London Office Director, said: 鈥淲e wanted to create a workplace that embodied the excellence of our staff within it. Collaboration was essential to this process, and we engaged with our staff early on to understand what was really important to them. Our mix of needs is very different as we continue to evolve from traditional engineers to multidisciplinary experts and advisors, and the design of our office reflects that.鈥

A home of big ideas, our office at The Featherstone Building brings together a number of 海角视频鈥檚 specialist design and advisory teams 鈥 from SMART buildings, to the latest in low-carbon building service operations, to inclusive design. We鈥檝e also made full of our flexible spaces to welcome clients and collaborators into our new office, hosting events that included a 25 Years of Bridges celebration, Redefining Obsolescence in the Built Environment in collaboration with for the Conference, and an insightful panel with senior leaders within the built environment for International Women in Engineering Day.
Always looking to find new ways to embed design in every element of our daily lives and connect with others, we were delighted to introduce a sculpture to our private 5th floor terrace over summer. Co-created with , the sculpture features a circular seating bench and lush plantings to draw people outside, fostering a connection to nature in the heart of the city while offering a moment of peace, or social interaction, during the day.

As well as enhancing the ways we work together, our new home inspired unexpected feats of fun and daring 鈥 from getting involved in the Standard Great City race around key landmarks like St Pauls to abseiling down our neighbouring Derwent building, the White Collar Factory, we’re proud of our colleagues for raising money for charity while bringing people together.

As we look back over all that our new home has enabled us to achieve in 2024, we鈥檙e also proud to have our commitment to leading sustainable design practices recognised with BREEAM Outstanding certification. Combining expertise from across our specialist teams, we strove to ensure our new office reached the highest standards.
From the earliest stage of the project, we introduced measures to enable us to reach our goal. These included developing bespoke digital energy models to ensure efficiency throughout the building, setting a low embodied carbon target for the fitout, and undertaking a healthy materials assessment. We also established a circular economy strategy for the office that considers aspects such as adaptability and end-of-life material reuse and recycling in the event of future fitout of the space.

Reflecting on this achievement, Justin Phillips said: 鈥淔rom the outset we wanted to put the sustainability of our new London office at the very heart of the fit-out design, aligning with our Net Zero Carbon commitments by 2030. We are delighted to have delivered on this commitment and for this to be recognised by our industry with our recent BREEAM Outstanding certification.鈥
With so much to celebrate from 2024, we look forward to seeing what 2025 brings for our London office, and our global 海角视频 team beyond.
