Seven fabulous project milestones for 2025

海角视频鈥檚 experts are working on incredible projects all around the world, with many reaching significant milestones in 2025. We take a look forward to seven stand-out projects set to reach fruition.

Jinghe New City Culture & Art Centre

Xi鈥檃n, China

The ancient city of Xi鈥檃n is set to see a new landmark take shape, which takes its influence from the surrounding landscape of central China. The Jinghe New City International Culture & Art Centre will take the form of a series of meandering structures, landscape footbridge and outdoor areas used for cultural and recreational activities.

海角视频 was engaged to provide expert advisory services for both the side facades and the specialist structural systems of the double-curving roof, which spans an eight-lane highway at its mid-point. The specialist structural scope also includes elements of the south pavilion library, north pavilion art centre and connection bridge facade system.

The new landmark building will house a multimedia library and flexible performing arts theatre, alongside multifunctional halls, studios, education and supportive retail. The section that spans the road will include landscape footbridge, elevated gardens and paths. The performing arts theatre, which will have a capacity of 1,000 people, has been designed to adapt to a variety of events.

V&A East

London, UK

V&A East, which will be located on the former Olympic site at Stratford, east London, aims to immerse audiences in the world of art, design, and performance. It is one part of an ambitious programme of multi-site developments from the V&A. The original museum in South Kensington is the world鈥檚 largest museum of decorative arts and design, housing a permanent collection of more than 2.8 million objects, books, and archives.

The V&A East Storehouse is set to open to the public at the end of May, 2025. 海角视频 has worked alongside architects on plans for V&A East Museum across a broad range of disciplines, to help to overcome some of the project鈥檚 key challenges.

The complex steel and concrete structure creates a series of unique internal spaces and supports a spectacular facade designed in pre-cast concrete and glass. But the facade geometry also created challenges around providing a flexible internal layout for the needs of the museum, with the ability to support significant hung loads for exhibitions.

LAX Midfield Satellite Concourse South

Los Angeles, USA

海角视频 worked closely with architects Woods Bagot to design and plan the new Midfield Satellite Concourse (MSC) South at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), with a segmented delivery solution that minimizes disruption to the neighbouring taxiways.

The design team鈥檚 pre-engineered, off-site construction approach creates an efficient and highly sustainable terminal for both passengers and airport operators alike. The MSC South project is part of a larger phased plan at LAX that aims to create a modernized and efficient suite of terminals.

Supporting eight new domestic gates, the twin-level, 150,000ft虏 MSC South concourse takes advantage of a key 10-acre site. Constrained on all sides by taxiways, an adjacent hangar, and MSC North 鈥 and with the requirement to keep LAX fully operational during the construction period 鈥 the site presented considerable challenges.

We answered the challenge with an innovative approach that used an offsite construction and relocation (OCR) strategy. Traditional building techniques would entail months of construction, requiring the partial closure of the neighbouring taxiways. But the OCR approach enabled the new concourse to take shape in just a matter of a few weeks.

Bukhamseen Tower

Kuwait City, Kuwait

A major mixed-use development at the heart of Kuwait City鈥檚 financial district will feature a new Mandarin Oriental Hotel, a variety of podium-level entertainment and retail outlets, and a 67-storey landmark tower above, featuring suites of new grade-A offices.

The 350m tower will also include the new headquarters of the Bukhamseen Group, which is the overall developer of the project. The luxury hotel will include 159 guestrooms, including 33 suites and 10 serviced apartments.

Our broad multidisciplinary team of experts delivered innovative solutions in every part of the project, which is set for completion in 2025. Rapid prototyping was inherent throughout the structural and architectural studies we delivered 鈥 using the latest digital modelling tools to support the client to identify the optimum solutions at every stage.

The Bukhamseen Tower is targeting LEED Platinum, which would make it an exemplar project for sustainability in Kuwait.

Anaklia Special Economic Zone

Anaklia, Georgia

The Anaklia Port and City stands on the Black Sea coast, providing a trade route to Europe for Georgia and a number of Central Asian countries.

In order to build the regional economy and play its part in the growth of the nation鈥檚 international trade, the port city has targeted the development of a 2,000-hectare city-scale Special Economic Zone (SEZ), based on the transformational prospects for green and smart cities. The ambition is to use the SEZ as a means to accelerate growth and diversification of the economy and drive trade and foreign direct investment.

The new Special Economic Zone will complement the port鈥檚 activity and provide and a new city-scale economic driver for Georgia, a regional business and trade hub on the crossroads of Europe and Asia. Image: 海角视频.

海角视频 was commissioned to examine the obstacles to be overcome for the city to achieve this vision, with the preparation of an economic study and visionary concept-level masterplan. Phase one completes in 2025.

Drawing on their extensive experience in this area, our experts established an economically viable proposition for the SEZ to establish the activities to be targeted and the quantum of demand forecast for each opportunity. Furthermore, we established the infrastructure requirements and associated costs to unlock the zone.

Barbican Renewal Programme

London, UK

In December 2024, the City of London Corporation approved a 拢191m funding package to support critical repairs and upgrades at the iconic Barbican Centre. The package will fund phase one of the Barbican Renewal Programme, a five-year project of works to secure the future of this internationally renowned, grade-II listed site.

A collaborative team led by Allies and Morrison, Asif Khan Studio and 海角视频 is designing the multi-million pound renewal of the Barbican arts centre and public spaces. The project will preserve and celebrate the iconic building鈥檚 original architectural vision, while attracting new and diverse audiences, providing new opportunities for the Barbican鈥檚 diverse community of partners, artists and audiences, and boosting the building鈥檚 accessibility and environmental performance.

The major renewal of the Barbican Centre is planned to take place in phases across the next decade. A multidisciplinary team from 海角视频 is playing a key role across this large scale, integrated and collaborative regeneration project.

RAW Potsdam

Potsdam, Germany

The oldest surviving building from the Reichsbahn railway period is to be transformed into a campus of innovation for virtual reality, culture and education.

The 19th century locomotive repair hall will be joined by two new complementary buildings, at the centre of plans to help regenerate a redundant building and create an innovation-focused urban quarter beside Potsdam鈥檚 main railway station.

RAW Potsdam is the new innovative center of the city of Potsdam, the capital of Brandenburg. Situated along the train tracks near the main station, the existing landmarked repair hall will be formed by two new buildings.  Image: Bloom Images.

Set to complete in 2025, the historic fabric of the existing RAW Potsdam building will be fully restored, to create a weather-tight facade within which a series of new structures will be built. This 鈥渂uilding within a building鈥 solution minimises unnecessary interventions in the historic structure of the building envelope, while maintaining structurally separate load parcels and delivering a series of comfortable and modern workspaces.

Our structural engineers were able to deliver detailed consultancy around the design for the refurbishment of the existing (listed) roof, ensuring that its historic fabric was kept, while also delivering improved insulation.
