Engineers declare climate emergency

In a significant moment for the UK construction industry, websites enabling structural, civil and building services engineering firms to sign up to an online climate emergency declaration are launched.

In light of the recent 鈥楢rchitects Declare鈥 campaign, the industry is pledging to set new priorities and develop better ways of working.

Alongside institutions and academia, our industry must work together more closely by sharing information and best practice; together agreeing to drive rapidly towards zero carbon construction in support of the UK Government鈥檚 declared aim.

The first professional declaration was created by 17 Stirling Prize winning architects at聽. As engineers we have soon followed to create allied sites.

Structural engineering firms are now able to sign up to a climate emergency declaration on聽, a site created with the support of the聽. This can also be found via the Institution of Structural Engineers.

There is no doubt that we have passed the point where we can afford to sit on the fence and wait for others. We have to set the pace of change and support the government and our clients in taking the steps to mitigate the climate change and biodiversity emergency that is plain for everyone to see.
