UNIDO Eco Industrial Parks and Sustainable Industrial Zones Training
Lima, Peru
海角视频 supported the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) to deliver an impactful online training course, which was part of the Global Eco-Industrial Parks Programme in Peru (GEIPP Per煤), a project financed by the Swiss Economic Cooperation in Peru 鈥 SECO.
The project aims to introduce some of the key players in Peru鈥檚 industrial parks sector to the latest ideas and lessons learned around achieving sustainability and green infrastructure in Industrial Parks.
UNIDO is a specialised agency of the United Nations with a unique mandate to promote and accelerate industrial development around the world. The Vienna-based organisation has a mandate to 鈥渂uild resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialisation and foster innovation鈥.
Berlin-based 海角视频 partner, Thomas Kraubitz has a deep level of expertise in the environmentally-friendly siting and sustainably-focused masterplanning for industrial parks, and has lectured on the subject as far afield as India and Egypt. As Head of Sustainability and Climate in Europe, Thomas co-leads 海角视频鈥檚 Cities Europe team, with a strong focus on resilient urban environments.
Thomas has also worked extensively on international development and green industrial districts with GIZ (Deutsche Gesellschaft f眉r Internationale Zusammenarbeit), the German government鈥檚 development corporation, and is also a board member on the German Green Building Council (DGNB). He was also involved with the creation of the first certification system for industrial districts under the DGNB umbrella.
Thomas led a series of masterclass-style sessions during 2020 for those engaged in shaping the future of Peru鈥檚 industrial park landscape. With travel restrictions in place as a consequence of the Covid-19 pandemic, he utilised online teaching platforms to deliver the ground-breaking course.
The idea of implementing strategic sustainability-driven thinking to the planning of industrial parks was an almost entirely new concept for the South American nation. The three-month course, which targeted industrial park owners, developers and administrators, covered a range of best practice teachings around the issues facing sustainable industrial park planning and development.
He brought in a range of masterclass speakers, including Roger Savage, one of 海角视频鈥檚 key thinkers on how cities can position themselves to address economic, social and environmental challenges, including opportunities relating to technological change and climate change risks.
It was fantastic to support the learning of the cohort in Peru and it is very rewarding that we are now officially a 鈥榖y appointment to the United Nations鈥 consultant.

Following the commission, Thomas was invited to Lima, Peru by UNIDO in 2022 to give a keynote speech on green industrial park strategies, as part of the I International Forum for the Development of Sustainable Industrial Zones in Peru, financed by Global Environment Facility (GEF).
He was able to also introduce Game of Zones, a new limited edition board game developed by Thomas and his team to further promote the ideas around sustainable development in a fun and engaging way.

We really have given them the tools they need to create good, green industrial districts 鈥 how to plan them, how to operate them and also how to maintain and report on their sustainability. We combined that with ESG and taxonomy requirements.
