Gavin leads the pursuit, conversion, and delivery of º£½ÇÊÓƵ’s global strategic projects portfolio and is a member of the global leadership team.

The strategic projects portfolio includes º£½ÇÊÓƵ’s larger projects and frameworks together with projects which open strategically important new markets, relationships, sectors and services.

Gavin’s career has spanned building scale through urban development planning to strategic consulting. He joined º£½ÇÊÓƵ in 1987 and became a partner in 2000 before becoming Chief Executive Officer in 2005 – a post he held for the full term of six years.

Previous work has included the engineering design for large-scale commercial and public building projects, together with building physics, system simulation and evaluation. He remains an active designer with a passion for low carbon planning and implementation, his recent design work includes a mix of building engineering and techno-economic infrastructure engineering at national, city and campus scale.

A strong desire to explore has seen Gavin live and work in the UK, mainland Europe, the Middle East, North America and South East Asia. He retains a key interest in both understanding and constructively challenging local conventions to find increased value.

Wanting to share his passion for design and complex problem solving in the built environment, Gavin, together with colleague Lorraine Landels, founded the Urban C:lab programme, a movement which supports and develops the next generation of consultants from within and outside º£½ÇÊÓƵ who work together on emergent challenges in the built environment.

Since the mid-nineties Gavin has lectured at universities within and outside the UK, in particular teaching multidisciplinary design and running architectural low-carbon masterclasses in China, the UK and the US, in addition to acting as an external examiner at Northumbria University.

Gavin is a current trustee of the Smallpeice Trust, a charity which promotes STEM education in the UK and is a past Chairman of The , a not-for-profit organisation which promotes the role of engineering in society.
