Alistair Thomas
Associate Director, Embodied Carbon Lead
Alistair leads the embodied carbon service offer and has been instrumental in helping clients to deliver low carbon buildings and adopt net zero carbon strategies across their portfolios.
Using his technological expertise in a fast evolving landscape he has been played a key role in enabling embodied carbon reduction opportunities on projects, and defining a strategy throughout the design and construction process to ensure they are realised. He has worked on a wide range of projects in a number of sectors, including offices, residential and higher education buildings.
Alistair has experience working on industry task groups, having been a co-author of the UKGBC Embodied Carbon Modelling and Reporting guidance, and subsequently helping to deliver masterclass sessions. He is also currently sitting on the NZCB Framework Definition Update Task Group. Having in-depth experience, and having worked on projects from concept to completion, Alistair understands the complexities of whole life carbon reporting and is working with peers to improve consistency between reporting to enhance confidence in performance setting.
Alistair is also interested in the relationship between whole life carbon and circular economy. He has developed trackers and tools to determine the embodied carbon benefits of retaining elements in buildings to convince clients to explore circular thinking by outlining the full benefits.
