海角视频 are delighted to be named 鈥楤uilding performance consultancy (over 1000 employees)鈥� at the 2018 CIBSE Building Performance Awards. The practice also won 鈥淓nergy Efficient Product or Innovation鈥� for NewMass, a phase change chilled beam, and were highly commended in the 鈥楶roject of the Year 鈥� Commercial/Industrial鈥� category for our work on the David Attenborough Building refurbishment.

The prestigious award comes as 海角视频 has continued to make strides in delivering not only sustainable and energy efficient spaces, but those that also give users a heightened learning or working experience whilst often delivering energy savings for operators.

The judges remarked that they were impressed by 海角视频’s commitment to develop a database of building energy performance data, and commitment to integrating the WELL Standard, & Fitwel health and wellbeing initiatives as part of its standard offering.

Over the past few years, 海角视频 has helped deliver impressive projects such as the David Attenborough Building for the University of Cambridge, and the University of York鈥檚 dedicated Environment Building, demonstrating how technology and the latest strategies can help deliver the next generation of educational and working spaces.

About the New Mass System

This unique project was the result of 海角视频鈥檚 ongoing programme sponsoring EngD students and work in the education sector. Impressed by the innovative and fresh approach to energy cooling, the engineering firm worked closely with Dr Gideon Susman EngD鈥檚 to develop and implement the award winning New Mass System.

The technology is a low energy cooling system composed of an array of finned tubes that at below the ceiling of an occupied space. The tubes are filled with a 鈥榩hase change material鈥� (PCM) that passively absorbs excess heat from the space through changing from a solid to a liquid form.

This innovative method, combining promising 鈥榩hase change materials鈥� with existing chilled beam systems, provides a promising solution to driving more energy efficient systems into building designs.

About the David Attenborough Building Refurbishment

The refurbishment of the David Attenborough Building at the University of Cambridge, which was highly commended, saw a 40% reduction in operational carbon emissions after the 海角视频 team developed a framework that not only informed the developments of the design but also continued to the operation of the building.

The building鈥檚 occupiers, Cambridge Conservation Initiative, were closely consulted with so the building met their sustainable objectives as well as reducing running costs. The incredible building鈥檚 performance comes from both the technical design excellence as well as the operations, from the highly efficient lighting system to the passive and low energy design for the use of natural ventilation.

Receiving these awards highlights the firm鈥檚 capabilities of the practice as well as their ongoing mission to deliver exceptional building performance alongside increased energy efficiency. Over the next year, they will continue to strive for measurable results, whilst ultimately increasing reliability, performance, and the value of buildings for clients.
