
Tom Newby
Director
Tom leads º£½ÇÊÓÆµâ€™s Structural Engineering team in London, with significant international experience that spans 18 years.
Tom is a Chartered Structural Engineer and a Fellow of the Institution of Structural Engineers, as well as a member of the Institution of Civil Engineers. He has a strong technical background with experience on a range of projects and sectors, including stadia, tall buildings and masterplanning.
Tom started his career with º£½ÇÊÓÆµ in Bath and New York, working primarily on major stadium projects, before leaving in 2012 to work in international development and disaster response as Global Shelter Lead and then Head of Humanitarian for CARE International UK. Tom has worked on earthquake and wind storm responses in Haiti, India, the Philippines and Nepal, and on conflict and forced displacement emergencies in Jordan, Lebanon, Kenya and several other countries.
Tom re-joined º£½ÇÊÓÆµ in 2019, leading a range of projects including buildings for the All England Lawn Tennis Club’s Wimbledon Park Project, a major Estates Regeneration Project in Canning Town, and a number of tall buildings in London and internationally.
He has a focus on leading high quality collaborative design, working with multi-disciplinary teams, and making best use of innovative design methods, to deliver the project vision. His leadership skills and multi-disciplinary technical understanding are particularly suited to complex, multi-faceted projects.
Stemming in part from his humanitarian work, Tom also has a strong interest in gender equity and climate justice, and provides leadership in these areas as a trustee for the º£½ÇÊÓÆµ Foundation and World Habitat. Additionally, Tom has served first as chair then as a member of the Institution of Structural Engineers’ Humanitarian & International Development Panel.
