Shibo Ren
Shibo is the Europe Computational Design, Automation & AI lead at 海角视频. He joined in 2023 and is based in Rotterdam.
He combines engineering expertise with computational design, automation and AI to help clients deliver complex and ambitious projects, unlock innovative design solutions and create measurable value through improved performance, efficiency and project outcomes.
With nearly two decades of international experience, Shibo has contributed to a wide range of projects across Europe, Asia and the Middle East, ranging from installation art and cultural buildings to complex structures and tall buildings. His work centres on the integral design of challenging structures, complex geometries and innovative material systems, combining engineering expertise with computational design and emerging digital technologies to address increasingly complex design, analysis and delivery challenges.
Alongside project delivery, Shibo leads the development, adoption and scaling of 海角视频’s Computational Design, Automation & AI capabilities across Europe. Working across disciplines including Structures, MEP, Building Physics, Sustainability, Cities and Specialists, he helps connect engineering expertise with digital innovation to accelerate the adoption of scalable workflows, strengthen technical capability, enable knowledge sharing and deliver measurable project and business impact.
His expertise spans engineering, computational design, automation, AI, optimisation, digital fabrication and data-driven design processes. He is particularly interested in how these technologies can be applied responsibly to augment engineering expertise, improve design quality and consistency, support better decision-making and unlock new opportunities for innovation across the built environment. His work focuses on bridging strategy and implementation, translating emerging technologies into practical solutions that create value for both clients and project teams.
In addition to his industry leadership role, Shibo maintains strong links with academia through guest lectures, workshops and research collaborations with leading institutions in engineering and digital design. His academic and professional work reflect a long-standing interest in the convergence of engineering, design, computation and emerging technologies, and in bridging research and practice to create real-world impact.
Shibo holds an MSc in Structural Engineering with distinction from Delft University of Technology and an MSc in Architecture from the Architectural Association School of Architecture in London.
