Nigel has a proven background as a health and safety professional, gaining the necessary skills, knowledge and experience required of an associate health and safety consultant at º£½ÇÊÓÆµ.
Having various project experience and being in a client facing role has enabled Nigel to enhance his skills and adaptabilities for projects and grow the principal designers services. Nigel adds value to clients through engagement, understanding their own safety requirements and goals for projects and ensure this is communicated and understood by the delivery teams at each key stage of the project.
Nigel graduated in 2004 after studying environmental risk management, which assisted in his goal to work in the health and safety sector preventing ill health of individuals, ultimately allowing them to return home safe and well. Studying this degree aided Nigel to gain CertIOSH membership.
With 20 years of health and safety experience, the last nine years have been in construction management within the civil engineering and environmental sectors. In 2019 Nigel assisted with the development, delivery and management of a health safety and environmental operating management systems used to deliver National Highways Lower Thames Crossing project (Phases 2 & 3). This approach was then adopted and implemented on all subsequent construction related projects for a variety of clients.
When the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations changed in 2007 and subsequently again in 2015, Nigel was responsible for interpretation and implementation within his then employers’ organisations. From commencing in the construction/civil sector, implementing hazard design reviews and preparation of construction phase plans, this led Nigel to embark on studying and passing the APS Principal Designer and Design Risk Management course in 2022.
Nigel believes that where there is a strong safety culture on a project, hazards will be identified in a timely manner, eliminated or adequately controlled, be legally compliant, leading to a saving in time and cost. Where gaps in knowledge are identified Nigel can produce toolkits and guidance to assist individuals achieve their responsibilities.
