Alfredo is a seasoned expert with over 25 years of experience in the analysis and design of seismic projects globally. His extensive background includes serving as a consultant, design project manager and engineer of record for numerous projects in seismic zones across the world, from the US to South Korea.

Since joining º£½ÇÊÓÆµ in 2014, Alfredo has led seismic engineering efforts on a multitude of projects in Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. As a Technical Director within º£½ÇÊÓÆµâ€™s London structural engineering team, he provides strategic guidance on structural and seismic engineering to teams in the UK and globally. Alfredo’s expertise spans seismic and structural design, tall buildings, detailing and construction, prefabricated structures, dynamics, non-linear structural response, advanced analysis, blast, impact, and progressive collapse. He co-leads º£½ÇÊÓÆµâ€™s global seismic engineering community.

Before his tenure at º£½ÇÊÓÆµ, Alfredo was a partner at a consulting firm in Costa Rica specialising in seismic engineering. He also served as a professor of engineering at the University of Costa Rica and held the position of President of the Association of Structural and Seismic Engineering. Additionally, he chaired the steering committee responsible for the Costa Rica Wind Loading Code. He often serves as a guest lecturer at University College London.

In every project, Alfredo’s design philosophy is to maximise the value for the architect, the client and the end user. His sound conceptual approach and his knowledge of state-of-the-art technologies allow him to embrace the complexity of iconic architecture without compromising on safety, economy or sustainability. A Licenced Civil Engineer (University of Costa Rica, 1996), Alfredo has a Post-Graduate Diploma in Earthquake Engineering from the IISEE, Japan, a Master’s and a Doctorate in Seismic Engineering and Risk Management from the ROSE School, Pavia, Italy. He is a Member of the American Society of Civil Engineers.
