How does 海角视频 allow you to build a legacy? Meet Victoria Yanovska.
The built environment is all around us. There is no building, area of public realm or city in the world that hasn鈥檛 been shaped and influenced by engineers, architects, designers or planners. It is in the houses we live in, the museums we visit, the parks and green spaces we play in, the cities we travel to and the sports stadiums where we cheer on our heroes.
Do you want to transform the world? The built environment is how to do it.
By its very nature, the built environment is an industry that allows those working in it to make a genuine impact on the world, and build a personal and professional legacy. What could be more impactful than physically shaping cities and places for decades to come?
At 海角视频, we deliver exceptional outcomes. And they are the kind of outcomes that mean our people can build a legacy 鈥 both professional, and personal. Our vision is that everywhere we live, work, move and socialise will respect and contribute to a more equitable world; enabling our clients and partners to develop built environments that are better for people, places and planet. Our people are the heart of achieving our vision.
In this series, you will meet 海角视频 people who are making their mark on the world.
Meet Victoria Yanovska
For many people in 海角视频, their career is never linear. It is certainly never predictable. Such is the case for Victoria Yanovska.
Victoria is currently ESG manager within our portfolio advisory team, part of our wider sustainability offering. She is based in Berlin. Victoria鈥檚 海角视频 journey began in 2017, when she joined the HR team in our Warsaw office and then transferred to Berlin as an executive assistant to the managing director, Europe. She later took an additional role as Europe鈥檚 health, safety and environment officer. It was here that Victoria became immersed in the world of the built environment and developed a particular interest in the sustainability side of 海角视频鈥檚 work.

She said, 鈥淭his was a big learning opportunity, because I was exposed to the wider business of 海角视频, including exploring and learning about all our disciplines. After some time, I realised how interested I was in sustainability and its role in the built environment.
鈥淚 knew that was where I wanted to be, and so I started building a transition path. It was quite a journey which wouldn麓t have been possible without the support from my managers and people who I worked close with at all stages. At every stage of my career so far, I鈥檝e had that support and I now have an opportunity to influence the built environment through my work.鈥
It is also Victoria麓s character that persuaded her to take on the challenge. She was a professional artistic gymnastics athlete in her youth and trained in the national Olympic facility in her prime sports years. “I think sports developed in me a goal-oriented approach in life and proved that ‘waters won麓t run under a lying stone’. Sports also taught me persistence and endurance – the qualities that definitely helped me on my career changing path.”
What does 海角视频 allow Victoria to deliver?
It was the immersion in the work undertaken by 海角视频 in the sustainability, climate and ESG space that sparked an interest in Victoria. She has now followed that interest to transform her career, starting in the portfolio advisory team.
She said, 鈥淚鈥檓 passionate about the built environment. Through the course of our lives, we spend so much of our time within buildings, and they are one of the most important areas in our lives. That is why it is important to invest our knowledge and creativity to improve the built environment and make it a 鈥榟appy and healthy鈥 place.
“I always had a strong interest in the exchange between cultures and so was keen to learn new languages. Being at 海角视频 allows me this exchange in a large, respectful international community, and also enabled me to learn a new, universal language – the language of the Built Environment.”
I wanted to make a difference, to quote Beyonce’s song I Was Here, 鈥渓eave my footprints on the sands of time鈥 and to make an impact for 鈥榩eople, places and planet鈥
So, why ESG in particular? Environmental, social and governance concerns are wide-ranging, and not just limited to sustainability. But perhaps that is the point: its influence means that potential impacts are also wide-ranging, with impressive levels of potential.
Victoria said, 鈥淓SG is about broader sustainability; we aren鈥檛 talking about environment only, but a broad approach that also considers social factors like accessibility, wellbeing and diversity, and governance factors such as compliance, transparency and disclosure.鈥
Building a legacy
In addition to various training and educational courses, Victoria鈥檚 experience within ESG so far has been one of learning-while-working, developing skills alongside experienced colleagues. She said, 鈥Before I moved to working within ESG, I didn鈥檛 work on engineering projects directly, but I had opportunities to get insights about the projects and the services we provide.
“I was working with people who were on those projects, and I always thought how amazing that person must feel to see a building come to life or see the impact of a project. And I wanted to be that person! I wanted to make a difference, to quote Beyonce’s song ‘I Was Here’, 鈥渓eave my footprints on the sands of time鈥 and to make an impact for 鈥榩eople, places and planet鈥. This 海角视频 viewpoint resonates with me very much.
鈥淜nowing that my expertise influences something that stands in front of us and that thousands of people will use is very exciting.鈥

Throughout a career at 海角视频, it is surely hard to pick a favourite project. But in Victoria鈥檚 time so far working in ESG, the affection she has for her first project is noticeable. She said, 鈥淢y favourite project is probably the first one I had the opportunity to lead. It is like a first love! It was a renovation of a district in Berlin, with new construction and existing buildings to be refurbished. It麓s a historic site, with a 100-year history. The existing buildings are listed. It is a former factory for the light bulbs production. I guess I caught the spark of that place and am passionate to bring the project closer to a sustainable tomorrow.鈥
It is not surprising that Victoria鈥檚 first project creates such affection for her. Thankfully, there are many more projects around the corner for her to establish her legacy even further.
Ukrainian Green Building Council
Victoria arrived in the Berlin 海角视频 office via Warsaw, but she originally comes from Ukraine. It is in her homeland that she sees opportunity for a truly landmark built environment legacy, via the establishment of
In her time in the cities team at 海角视频, Victoria has been supported by her line manager Prof. Dr. Eckhart Hertzsch, her immediate team colleague Jamal Rada and by her mentor, sustainable urban development expert and partner, Thomas Kraubitz. She said, 鈥淭homas supported my transition and welcomed me to the team, he entrusted me with opportunities, and continues to mentor me.鈥
It was Thomas who first raised the subject of a Green Building Council for Ukraine to Victoria. She said, 鈥淭homas let me know about UGBC, and asked if I was interested in being involved. And of course, I said yes, because I have a professional interest, but also a personal one. That鈥檚 how I, representing 海角视频, became a co-founder with 15 other people.鈥
Looking at how to rebuild 鈥 in a sustainable way 鈥 is something to look towards. We have set the bar high for sustainable development in Ukraine because we are passionate about the success of it
UGBC was officially introduced as a part of the global network of Green Building Councils in April 2024. In line with other global Green Building Councils, sustainable development and collective action against the climate crisis in the built environment is what underpins UGBC鈥檚 work.
Victoria said, 鈥淚t is fascinating to see what we, the co-founders, have built up from scratch since our first meetings. Led by Maksym Kryvosheiev, the president of the UGBC, and being supported by our sister GBCs, we are working on establishing the UGBC as a strong and valuable player and influencer in the Ukrainian built environment and beyond. This June, I am proud to represent the UGBC at the WorldGBC Global Leadership Summit 2024 in London – a 4-day conference for the network of 80+ Green Building Councils and global partners to leverage the built environment as a key solution to the climate challenge.”
At a time of war, with extraordinarily challenges for all, Victoria explains how focusing on the future sends a message of hope and recovery. She said, 鈥淟ooking at how to rebuild 鈥 in a sustainable way 鈥 is something to look towards. We can take best practices from other Green Building Councils but will bring our own touch and country-specific mentality.
鈥淲e have set the bar high for sustainable development in Ukraine because we are passionate about the success of it. What is happening in Ukraine hurts. We have to establish the necessary processes, connections and technology now so that when the war ends, we can rebuild. I know we cannot do everything, but we can do our best in our own spheres of influence.鈥
