Artificial intelligence at 海角视频
Across all industries, artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming how we work. AI covers a wide spectrum of technologies and applications 鈥 the built environment is at the forefront of the AI revolution, and 海角视频 is no exception.
海角视频 has embraced AI to ensure competitiveness, efficiency and innovation across all its functions, and to continue delivering the high standards our clients expect. We also work in a way that means the human element at the heart of our work is not diluted 鈥 we believe in a human-centered approach: AI enhances creativity, it doesn鈥檛 replace it. Our engineers and advisors remain in control, while elevating their work with AI when appropriate. We are committed to AI鈥檚 ability to free up space for deeper creativity, greater connectivity and enhanced collaboration for the whole practice.
AI matters because it is no longer a theoretical, or a distant possibility. It is a present reality that is actively changing and shaping how multiple elements of our lives operate. It can accelerate automation, improve productivity, help make sense of data and deliver competitive advantage for our clients.
Our heritage of innovation
At our core, 海角视频 is a practice full of problem solvers and innovators. We embrace the kind of change that will lead to better solutions to the often-complex problems our clients bring to us. Company-wide adoption of AI is a natural progression of the innovation culture that has been our watchword for nearly 50 years. Adoption of technology as a whole 鈥 and AI in particular 鈥 is not new for us.
海角视频 embrace the kind of change that will lead to better solutions to the often-complex problems our clients bring to us.
Dr Al Fisher, who leads computational development at 海角视频 globally confirms: 鈥淲e have always been pioneers and early adopters and shapers of technology in the built environment .
鈥淚 can happily talk about dynamic relaxation algorithms and how that was pioneered by our founding partners 50 years ago to model canopy shapes to ensure the most efficient use of materials, or the growth of our computational engineering approach or the development of open source software (such as the ; the 鈥淏HoM鈥) 鈥 but to put it simply, innovation has been in our DNA since day one and AI is no different.
鈥淭his is across both 鈥楪enAI鈥 (for business or code writing tasks) and 鈥榥on-GenAI鈥 鈥 supervised machine learning models 鈥 which we use for data analysis and predictions. We have a constant approach of digital transformation. Connecting different areas in a multidisciplinary firm, where we have specialists in disparate areas, has always been what 海角视频 people are good at.
鈥淎s we progress over the next 50 years, AI will be a great tool in continuing our approach of connectivity and interoperability.鈥

Our AI philosophy: ethical, human-centred, accessible
There are understandable concerns about widespread use of AI, and the impact it may have on society, businesses and people. That is why adoption of AI-powered technologies is carefully considered by our experts and are only onboarded if they meet certain criteria; we are committed to safe, systematic adoption of AI technology. One key positive outcome that AI can deliver is the democratisation of technology: AI lowers barriers, enabling more people to engage with complex systems.
Al Fisher said, 鈥淲e are shaping the use of AI around the way in which we work as a global collective of creative, bright, enthusiastic, talented human engineers and experts. I see AI as one more technology that we are integrating into our ways of working and a natural progression of technological maturity at 海角视频.
鈥淪omething else that is really important is the ability of AI to lower barriers. It has a democratising element. When used smartly and intelligently, AI has the capacity to empower us to be our better selves and open up chances to be even more human.鈥

This is about reimagining how we work, what our processes and workflows look like and how we unlock our potential by upgrading our skills. Critical in this approach is the proviso that we do this in a safe, effective way. Jason Kane is 海角视频鈥檚 global director of IT. He said, 鈥淲e have to look at AI through a lens of the opportunities it can bring, but also from an ethical perspective. That is key and always has to be our starting point. AI at 海角视频 isn鈥檛 just about efficiency: it is about giving people time back to be creative.鈥

Collaborative thought leaders
We believe that our always-curious, always-responsible approach to adopting new methods of technology is perfectly aligned with the approach we take into all our work. Those people who are the most developed in AI practices in 海角视频 take active steps to work collaboratively with external partners to continue to learn and bring those learnings back into the practice.
Through to the end of 2026, we are partnering with Birmingham City University through a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) to enhance productivity and automate aspects of CAD drawings, using AI and machine learning to draw on existing engineering data. A key part of this project is the development of a drawing assistant with machine learning 鈥 a tool that uses AI to help find and interpret drawings more efficiently, changing how our engineers interact with and extract value from technical engineering drawings and data.
We are also leading the charge on mobilising AI to address the global challenges that arise in the built environment and the construction sector. In early 2025 we announced our involvement with a led by . This programme will accelerate adoption of AI across industries that have high growth potential but low technology adoption rates. As one of three key industry partners, we are working with AI start-ups to define the challenges they are addressing, provide industry expertise and continue to drive innovation.
Our involvement shows our dedication to embracing the technologies that will ultimately deliver transformation to our industry. As part of this programme we are also working with on machine learning development for drawing reviews. In November, Lucy Devall, 海角视频鈥檚 innovation framework lead, spoke at The Alan Turing Institute as part of the panel for the 鈥楤ridgeAI Adopters and Developers鈥 event.

Our experts forge a path in their own areas of specialisation, too: May Winfield is global director of legal and digital risk at 海角视频 and is renowned for her expertise in risks associated with digital technology.
- Her talk at ,鈥 focused on the legal and ethical risks of generative AI and how organisations can proactively manage them
- She gave the keynote at the Building Engineering 海角视频 Association (BESA) in October 2025 (considering the risks in areas like contract liability and data responsibility)
- May co-authored the Chartered Institute of Building鈥檚 (CIOB) (鈥淎I, the law and contracts鈥)
- She was the lead for drafting ISO19650, which forms part of the
- May was a member of the UK Gov Construction Playbook (v2) working group and the Modern Methods of Construction sub-working group.
Where are we today鈥 and where next?
Across 海角视频, there is already a wide range of applications in use (all carefully managed under the firmwide AI steering group 鈥 comprising experts across IT, commercial, computational and legal). From LLMs and Agentic AI to assist in business operations tasks and dedicated applications to support bid work, to process automation options that support with design and engineering, we safely embrace the advantages that AI can bring to boost efficiency, improve accuracy and deliver measurable impact for our clients and teams.
Our internal policies and guidance documents for the responsible and ethical deployment of AI, including training and specialised contract/scope review, ensure quality control and standardisation across the practice.
By actively embracing and integrating AI solutions, we reinforce our commitment to being exceptional, resilient and primed for the next level.
Where else can we go? By actively embracing and integrating AI solutions, we reinforce our commitment to being exceptional, resilient and primed for the next level. We aim to increase democratisation, continue to enhance interoperability and automation, and connect our multidisciplinary teams 鈥 all while anticipating and shaping future professional practices that use AI.
May Winfield said, 鈥淏eing future focused and having industry thought leaders means we can prepare for upcoming developments and where AI will go next. We are conscious that AI is developing all the time: what we understand now is vastly different from what we knew even six months ago. We embrace what AI can bring us, while always adopting it with a risk managed and risk aware approach that protects both our clients and 海角视频鈥檚 interests.鈥
